Question: Almost every morning when I wake up my gums are red and swollen.  They seem to go back to normal later on in the day and they do not bleed when I brush.  I do not understand why my gums are like this is it normal?

Reply: It is not normal, you may have some gum issues going on. You should see a dentist to confirm and treat if necessary. If you do have gum disease, it can be easily treated by a dentist. But you should go and confirm.

Dental Insurance Health Care, Dry Socket

Question: How do you get dry socket?  I have to have a bad tooth pulled and a implant put in.  I can not have the implant until my gums heal.  However I am worried that when they pull my tooth I may get dry socket.   I do not know much about it only that it happen when you pull a tooth.

Reply: You will want to follow the dentist aftercare instructions to the letter. Just taking care of your extraction like you are told to will help avoid you from dry socket and any other problems.

Question: I think I may have a cavity.  What does a cavity look like?  I notice a little black spot on my tooth the other day and have not been able to brush or floss it off.   It does not hurt but I worried that I have a cavity.

Reply: You can search images of dental cavities to get a feel for what one looks like.  However with that said. If you think you have a cavity it is best to go see a dentist to confirm what is really wrong with your tooth.

Also in case you are thinking it dose not hurt so what is the point in seeing a dentist, you should know that cavities do not always hurt and when they do you may have bigger issues then just a cavity. That is why you should see a dentist before having any dental pain issues. Go see your dental as soon as possible so that you can get your tooth taken care of.

Dental Insurance Health Care, Dental X-rays and Four Months Pregnant

Question: I am four month pregnant but I am also due for my dental cleaning It has been a year since the last one.  My husband dental plan kicked in for us so I can see a dentist again.  Do I need to wait to have the baby or can I have my teeth cleaned without having to have the X-rays.  Do you know?

Reply: If you are going to a dental office that already has a prior record on file, X-rays should not be an issue they can put that off and still do a basic cleaning.  However if you have dental issues you want to address then x-rays may be needed.  Just tell your dentist you are pregnant they will advise if they can or can not put off x-rays and if x-rays are needed they know how to take them without it being and issue for your baby

Question: I need to get a PPO dental plan so that I can keep my dentist.  I know that these types of dental insurance plans have waiting periods.   However, I need a plan that has more then a 1000.00 max limitation.  If I am going to have to wait out waiting periods I want better coverage then just a $1000.00 a year.

Reply: Generally speaking PPO plans range from a $500-$2000 maximum limitation. Some times depending on the state you are in and the plan you may find some with $2500-$3000 max limit.
