According to a new study that was published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, it found an association between the use of a non-alcohol antimicrobial mouth rinse in pregnant women and a decreased rate of delivering babies prematurely. While the study didn’t look to find the reason for the difference, lead author Marjorie Jeffcoat of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine told Reuters that one theory is that gum-disease-induced inflammation could trigger early birth.

Student Discount for Dental Insurance

Monday, Sep. 11th 2017 6:51 AM

Question: Can you get a student discount on dental insurance? I am a full time student.  I need something cheap.  Maybe a plan that  offer a student discount on the cost would be great.  I do not want to spend a lot for dental insurance since I only go to the dentist twice a year.

Reply: There are many low cost dental HMO insurance plan options running around $8.00 – $20.00 a month for an individual. They do not provide additional discount for student but are priced low enough that hopefully you can find it affordable.  Most HMO dental insurance plan also offer preventive care such as your twice a year cleanings, X-rays and checkup for little to no cost. This is also well within a lower cost budget since you stated that is mostly all you do.

Benefit of a Dental Discount Plan When Needing Adult Orthodontic Services

Often times dental insurance plans do not provide benefits for adult orthodontic care and when they do it is on traditional metal braces. Many adult however would prefer braces that are more aesthetically pleasing. That is when a dental discount plan becomes very helpful. Dental discount plans are not insurance plans, however they do provide discount saving off most all dental services provided. Dental discount plans are low cost dental plan options and they normally provide between 20 to 25 percent off the cost of orthodontic services regardless of they type of braces you may choose to have.

Dental Insurance Health Care, The Benefit of Ceramic Braces

Tuesday, Sep. 5th 2017 6:27 AM

Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. Ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have aesthetic concerns. While ceramic braces are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger than metal braces. The only drawback to ceramic brackets is that they are more fragile, and the elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits with certain foods and smoking.

Dental Insurance Health Care, Best Dental Insurance Plan for a Student.

Sunday, Sep. 3rd 2017 9:26 AM

Question: I am looking for the best dental insurance for a California student.  I am wanting to get the best dental insurance plan but do not know how to determine what dental insurance plan is the best.  What are some things I should know when buying a dental plan?  Thanks for any advise given

Reply: Start with your dental needs. Preventive care with most insurance plans are free to little cost but if you feel your current dental needs go beyond preventive care then you may be wanting a plan that will not have waiting periods, such as an HMO. Most HMO dental insurance plans do not have waiting periods but read the terms and conditions of each plan to confirm.

Next important factor is whether or not you are wanting to stay with a current dental provider. If so then you are not only trying to find a dental insurance plan for yourself but one that your provider takes.  Since HMO dental insurance plan you have to choose a plan provider you may then have to look at the PPO insurance options in order to stay with or choose your own dentist.  Dental PPO’s plans will normally have waiting periods and annual maximal limitations so make sure you once again read each plan carefully to understand their terms and conditions.

Dental Insurance Health Care, Dental Providers in an HMO Dental Insurance Plan.

Friday, Sep. 1st 2017 6:31 AM

When shopping for a low cost dental HMO insurance plan make sure the plan you are reviewing has more then one dental provider you may want to go to. Most HMO dental insurance plan requires that you pick the dental provide you wish to see under their plan during the application process. Yet you should make sure that there are at least two or more dental providers under the selected plan you are reviewing.

By picking a plan that has more then one dental provider in the mile radius you are willing to travel, you are leaving your self open to make changes if necessary. You can not change dental providers if there is only one provider in the plan to pick from. Therefore it may be best to choose and HMO with more dental providers, then one with fewer dental providers, even if benefits are slightly better with the plan that has less providers.

Dental Insurance Health Care, Invisaligns

Thursday, Aug. 31st 2017 9:11 AM

Clear appliances, such as Invisalign, use a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners to straighten your teeth. Since invisaligns are invisible no one can tell you are wearing them. Invisaligns are also removable, thus letting you eat and drink what you want while in treatment. This benefit also lets you brush and floss your teeth like normal. Since the aligners do not have any metal they are more comfortable and will not cause mouth abrasions during treatment.

Dental Insurance Health Care, The Benefits of Buying a Dental PPO Plan.

Tuesday, Aug. 29th 2017 6:07 AM

One main benefit of a dental PPO plan, is being able to either use a dentist that is in the plan network or outside the plan network of providers. This is key when trying to stay with your own dentist that may not be a provider of any dental HMO insurance plan. Another benefit is since you have a free choice of choosing your own dentist you can also choose to see a dental specialist when needed. Such as a Pediatric dentist for young children or children with special needs.

Dental Insurance Health Care, Looking For Dental Insurance

Sunday, Aug. 27th 2017 6:04 AM

Question: I have been without dental insurance for over two years. I am a student out on my own trying to get dental insurance but the truth of the matter is I really do not understand how dental insurance works.  What is better for me to get a dental HMO or a dental PPO.

Reply: For a student an HMO may be more affordable for you. Not only regarding the cost of the dental insurance plan but for the dental services render.

You will need to choose a dentist in the HMO dental insurance plan network provider data base. So unless you are trying to stay with a dentist I would suggest reviewing our  HMO dental insurance options first.

PPO’s dental insurance plans are more costly and have more restrictions such as waiting periods and maximum annual dollar limitations you need to fully understand.  However these plans are really good in letting you stay with or choose your own dentist.  So which is better will depend on what you can afford to pay and what you feel is your current dental care needs.

Dental Insurance Health Care, Pay Attention To Your Oral Health

Paying Attention to Your Dental and Oral Health.

We talked in prior posts about the importance of having good at home dental habits (brushing and flossing your teeth regularly) in order to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Yet one step that is often forgotten is being aware of changes within your mouth. While you are brushing and flossing your teeth make sure to look inside your mouth each time for any noticeable changes. Are your gums nice and pink, or red or swollen? Do your gums bleed while brushing or flossing your teeth? If you know what the inside of your mouth normally looks like, you will be able to quickly spot discoloration or sores. If you do see changes in your mouth that is outside the norm, speak to your dentist and have it check out. Add this important step in your daily dental care routine in order to maintain healthy teeth, gums and overall wellness.

Trying to maintain regularly dental checkups at an affordable cost? If so, think about buying dental insurance. The fact is most dental insurance plans provide preventive dental services at no cost to you. Dental insurance companies know one way to avoid having to pay out larger dental claims, is by providing preventive dental care at either a very low cost or at no charge to their insureds.
