Periodontal Disease (Gum Disease) is a severe infection that, left untreated, may lead to tooth loss. Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bones supporting the teeth. Periodontal disease can affect one tooth or many teeth. It begins when the bacteria in plaque cause the gums to become inflamed. If left untreated by a dentist, plaque can spread and grow below the gum line. Toxins produced by the bacteria in plaque irritate the gums. The toxins stimulate a chronic inflammatory response, and the tissues and bones that support the teeth are broken down and destroyed.

Dist of Columbia dental health, Bleeding gums and dental care. Dose bleeding gum meen you have Gingivitis or can you have bleeding gums for other reasons? My gums only bleed when I brush and floss my teeth so could I be brushing to hard? I do my best to take good care of my teeth since I can not afford dental insurance or going to a dentist.

Maine dental care for gums, I have white lines on my gums. With in the last few weeks I have been noticing white lines at the edge of my gums near the tooth line. I am not sure what it means. I brush normally two times a day and floss most days so why are is my gum line turning white?

I went to the dentist the other day and I had no cavities which I though was good since I have not seen a dentist in many year prior to this point. I was told by the dentist that I do have gum disease and that I need to see a Periodontist.
Why so I need to see a Periodontist? I am not too sure what that is but I am guessing it has to do with my gums. Why can not the dentist just do a deap cleaning that I thought you would get when people have gum issues.
I do not have dental insurance and I know if I go to one of those Periodontist people it will cost me way more then I can afford. Is it really all that important that I go? After all my teeth are just fine and my gums do not hurt me.

Hello, I would like some advise please. On Friday I went to the dentist for a normal check up and cleaning. They did X-rays too so this all cost me a total of $225.00. This was a lot of money for me but since I have not been to the dentist in over three years I wanted to have it done.
However I was told that I have Periodontial disease. Which the dentist said can be treated by doing a Scaling and Root Planing (which by the way have know idea what that really is) which would cost me a total of a little over $600.00.
Now it not that I do not have the money but it is money I really do not want to spend right now since money is tight. How important is having this done? I mean I have no cavities and my teeth are find. Nothing hurts? I just not sure if he taking me for a ride since I pay in cash.
