Supplemental Dental Insurance, need additional dental insurance

Tuesday, Jul. 13th 2010 8:02 AM

Please help and advise me in the right direction.  I do get dental insurance though my employer. However the dental insurance I have has a $1000.00 yearly cap per person.  I have a lot of dental issues that need to be address and $1000.00 will not be enough unless I have it over the coarse of many years.

I’m interested in purchasing additional dental insurance and or a dental plan but I am not sure of where to go now.  I’ve researched on the internet and heard about Dental Discount Plans, but I am not sure if dentist will combine a discount plan with insurance.   Can you advise?

I just need something that will work when I use up my $1000.00 max cap on my current plan. Thanks for any information provided.

What I would do would be to pull up the dental providers in the discount plan you are reviewing and see if they are willing to use both the discount plan and your current dental insurance.

Discount plans are more open to those kinds of things but you need to make sure the dentist would be willing to give you a discounts under the plan and then still bill off to an dental insurance company.

The trick when combining two dental plans whether it is two dental insurance plan or insurance with a discount plan, is making sure the dental office understands what you are wanting done.

Also some dental office will not combine two dental plans. And the problem is that part of the reason why a dental office may take a discount plan is that they are getting paid up front.

So they do not have to use both your discount plan and your dental insurance for the same dental services. You will need to make calls to the dentist and see if you can find anyone willing to work this out with you
