Research Questions How Much Fluoride Really Helps to Fight Cavities.

Study are showing that the protective shield fluoride forms on teeth is up to 100 times thinner than previously believed. This new study done found that the fluorapatite layer formed in this way is only 6 nanometers thick. It would take almost 10,000 such layers to span the width of a human hair. That’s at least 10 times thinner than previous studies indicated.

California Dentist are seeing more of their patients are unable to by for dental care treatment. Some of the hardest people hit by the economy is the younger kids who may not have steady jobs or dental insurance as well as lower income families that are just making ends meat. Simply put many of these people can not afford any major dental care such as root canals, and crowns that can cause as high as $2000 or more without dental insurance.

Dental Health Care, Local dental professionals gave residents a renewed reason to smile.

Several local dental professionals have teamed up to offer citizens of Franklin County a free dental day. On Friday October 21st at 8 am at Washington Square Dental. The event which offer extractions, fillings and cleanings, was spearheaded by Dr. Melissa Smith of Washington Square Dental and Washington Smiles in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Dentistry From the Heart.

The ADA and AAPD urged the Health Resources and Services Administration to reject a federal advisory panel’s dental workforce recommendations in a draft health personnel report to Congress. The report, ninth in a series of annual reports to health policymakers, is unfortunately, believe by the ADA and AAPD to be fraught with errors and misplaced emphasis that the ACTPCMD should scrap it and start over, at least for the sections that address dental programs

Hundreds people flock to free dental clinic at BHS.

People waited in the dark and near freezing night to go to the Colorado Mission of Mercy free dental clinic at the Brush High School. 1343 people where treated over a two day period, which amounted to about $770,000.00 worth of free dental work. There were 973 volunteers to help out this included the 173 dentist and 90 dental hygienists.

Dentists warn consumers about the safety of tooth whitening, now being offered at many beauty salons and clinics. The risk of teeth whitening procedure is manifold when it is performed by unqualified staff. The BDA and the General Dental Council have both reiterated that tooth whitening should be carried out only by registered dental practitioners.

Study show that Seniors Suffer from Crowded Teeeth.

A study done by Faculty of Dentistry at Malmö University that followed a cohort of dentists throughout their adult lives, show that our jaws decreases with age. The study showed that over forty years there was less and less room for teeth in the jaw. This crowdedness comes from shrinkage of the jaw, primarily the lower jaw, both in length and width. While this is only a matter of a few millimeters, but it is enough to crowd the front teeth.

In Ontario 45% of people 65 and older did not see a dentist in the last year. Studies show a lack of regular dental care increases their risk of chronic diseases and a reduced quality of life.

It may be hard to believe but many people still do not floss. Flossing is even more important then brushing when it comes to preventing gum disease gingivitis and tooth loss. Flossing your teeth is not so much about removing food bit that are such between your gums though it does do that. Flossing is more about removing dental plaque. Dental plaque is what causes tooth decay, gingivitis and gum disease. Flossing every day between each tooth is an effective way to remove plaque and provide you with good oral health.

A National Poll on Children’s Health shows that Young Children are off To A Poor Start with Dental Health.

A new report from the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health shows that most children ages 1-2 have not yet started seeing a dentist, even though most experts recommend that children begin oral health care by age 1 or when their first teeth emerge. It is critical to make sure that parents know and understand their role in preventing dental problems.

BDA Requests HTM 01-05 Review Timetable Be Set.

The British Dental Association (BDA) sent a letter requesting that the Department of Health announces a timetable for the review of HTM 01-05 as promised.
The Department of Health stated that a review would be held within two years, a deadline of December 2011. However, details of the review have not yet been laid out. The BDA is asking that the Department commit to a date to start the review, as well as providing them with details of how it will be carried out and assurance that they will be completely involved in the process.

Funding for Evening Hours for Health Clinics.

Cincinnati Council members are sponsoring a motion that would fund evening hours at the city health care clinics. The death of Kyle Willis brings home the point of just how important emergency dental care clinics are. Mr Willis age 24 died in August at University Hospital when he had an untreated tooth infection spread to his brain.

Dental health care, buying a dental discount plan for my family.

I am wanting to find a good dental discount plan that will save money off my family dental care. I have a healthy family but we currently do not have dental insurance and can not afford to go to the dentist as it is now. Will buying a dental discount plan really help us to save money. It has been established in a study from the Faculty of Odontology at Malms University in Sweden that the size of teeth in premature children is smaller. Our knowledge about premature children, and their physical and mental development as they grow up, is constantly expanding. In recent years several studies of children’s dental health have been published by researchers at the Faculty of Odontology in Malma. Liselotte Paulsson-Bjarnsson, a specialist in orthodontics, has studied 80 children born before week 33 of pregnancy
